(グラバー園) Glover Garden

Thomas Blake Glover built his home here in 1863, in a hill overlooking the Nagasaki Harbor (source). A hundred or so years later, the mementos of the Glover family is carefully preserved for our appreciation.

And since I had time to kill, figured might as well go and visit. I was planning on going Gunkanjima, and the port was a ten minute walk from here.

Budget: JPY1,120 (~USD11)
  • JPY620. Entrance fee.
  • JPY500. One day's pass for the trams in Nagasaki.
Visit Date
  • March 30, 2017
When to Go
Anytime during the year.

Special Notes
  • All the requisite details are in their website
  • It was just a short walk and I was finished within the hour.
    • There is, however, an option to dress up in medieval European style. Around JPY3,000 for an hour or so if I remember correctly.
    • The garden has three heart shaped rocks, and finding all three is a pretty time consuming activity that was fun for about a couple of minutes.
    • All these are in the pamphlet, so definitely take the pamphlet (English) and take the time to read it.
Itinerary
  • 11:05am. Arrived at the entrance of the garden. Walked around.
  • 11:16am. Arrived at the main mansion. Walked around.
  • 12:00pm. Left the garden and headed out to my next stop.
The entrance! Here we go!

Ok, this is definitely not how the house was.

Feeling like I'm coming in for a visit.

They have great views though.

It's all about location.

Bringing a bit of their home in Japan.

See that girl in the far end? You can even dress up like them. I was flying solo though, and didn't feel like dressing up alone (sigh)

And this is how the rich lived back then.

With good music I hope.

I spent a while in the area looking for the heart shaped rock.

But would love to have a resthouse like this.

With beautiful gardens.

Found ONE heart shaped rock. I got tired and was ready to call it a day.
